ASA 103 Basic Coastal Cruising
Prerequisites
ASA 101, Basic Keelboat Sailing and the ability to demonstrate the skills required of this level.
The ASA 103 Basic Coastal Cruising course is a full length intermediate level sailing and beginner cruising course, leading to certification from the American Sailing Association. In this one day course participants will learn how to skipper a medium size keelboat, by day in moderate winds and sea conditions. Topics that you will learn include: cruising sailing terminology, basic boat systems, auxiliary engine operation, docking procedures, intermediate sail trim, navigation rules, basic coastal navigation, anchoring, weather and seamanship. This course also emphasizes boating safety and facilitates the Hawaii State required boating safety education courses which are approved and provided by BoatUS and BoaterExam.
Course tuition includes membership to ASA and at the end of this course participants will be awarded the ASA Basic Coastal Cruising 103 certificate, which is recognized by boat rental companies worldwide.
